Abstracts

Abstracts

It was the paint-over of a previous hardboard canvas that lured me into abstraction. It was so much fun, so freeing, that I was hooked. Abstraction becomes joyful, exploratory and mindless in that I follow only where the shapes, color and energy lead me. With my mind freed to wander, I paint without expectation, obligation or the need to please. Because I am very good at drawing what I see, my charge here is to free myself from the constraints of reality and replication. Instead, this is all about wandering into that mirage of nameless form and juxtaposition – the voices in my head whispering, ghostlike, with their presence.  Sometimes the animals jump in, and when that happens, I try to recognize what is happening and let go, listening and just following where their message leads me. Usually, with a fresh eye, I see so much more in the painting than I was aware of during the process.

Automotive

Automotive

I grew up around cars. My mom + dad, my grandfathers, my brothers, all loved cars! Dad had several Sunbeam Alpines, the first in the 50s, and later, as I came of driving age. One brother built hot rods, later racing locally, and made his living as a mechanic. My other brother recently sold his Cobra. Consequently, I spent much of my childhood scaling junkyard walls trying to keep up with the boys. The bug caught me when my husband and I landed in Germany with the military in the early 70s. The nimble little BMW 2002s that were setting the racing world on fire, were tearing up the Autobahn. We were smitten, ordered one, drove it for several years and brought it home. It is now my 'collector' car about to turn 50 years old!

I guess it was only a matter of time before I would begin to paint these beloveds, and I am having a ball! I photograph them if close enough, then work to create a fresh, dynamic and painterly image that hopefully makes their owners' hearts sing at each glance. If it's planes, trains or boats that light you up, I am equally ready to paint them!

Commissions

Commissions

I accept commissions of any subject that I feel comfortable painting. If I am not comfortable, I will tell you ... no ego here!
If it is feasible to meet and take my own photos, I will do so, otherwise I work from what you offer. Pricing for commissions depends on the size, substrate and number of subjects, but typically falls between $500 and $1,500, unframed and before shipping.

Nature/Scapes

Nature/Scapes

All things nature, feed my soul and swell my heart. Hardly a day goes by that I am not finding myself in awe of some creation or moment in time, watching it and hearing the messages they share with all of us, if only we stop and listen. Often, these moments are very personal, but there is something common in all of them – they bring us emotions that we enjoy. And, if I am lucky when painting on a given day, Mother Nature will share her energy, flowing it straight down my arm and through the brush!

Reproductions/Prints

NOTE:

Prints, in a Limited Edition of signed Giclee prints of any paintings in the Automotive Series may be ordered either directly (unsigned), or by contacting the artist ( I am working to get them all prepped for POD but not there yet. There is no extra charge for me to prep a particular painting for printing, so just reach out for any details and costs. Never any pressure to ask questions!).

1970 Survivor, Rocket 88, '53 Caddy Coupe, BMW 328 Roadster, Isetta 600, Baby Bird, Glass V8, Roundies:
*Limited edition of 10 signed, Giclee prints at original size (other sizes available).

BMW e9 Coupes:

*Limited edition of 75 signed, Giclee prints at original size (other sizes available).

Giclee reproductions are of the highest quality available, printed in twelve archival inks on heavy, archival paper, canvas or other substrates. All prints may be professionally framed by the artist (see below), or shipped rolled.

Printed on paper, prints are best displayed and preserved by being matted and framed with several choices of glass.
It should be noted that no reproduction should ever be hung where it gets direct light at any time of the day, which will eventually fade and damage it. Care should also be taken to avoid finger prints when handling, as they may yellow after some time.

*Framing: I offer custom framing at 15% above my low trade cost. (I do this because I am aware that many people do not feel comfortable with choosing frames, and the correct frame/matt can make all the difference!) You will approve the frame while I am at the framer's, so you can know exactly what the choices, costs and turnaround are. There will most likely be some additional shipping costs when framed, but the substantial savings for trade framing should easily offset them. I also offer free design consulting to ensure that your print is sized right for the space, and that framing enhances both the piece and its surroundings.
